Where The Day Falls Quietly


This work began as a simple exploration of stillness, but gradually revealed a landscape shaped by instinct and memory. Set within a circular frame, the composition draws the viewer into a quiet horizon where light fades gently into dusk. 

The waterfall introduces movement, contrasting with the calm of the sky, suggesting the continuous flow of time within moments of rest.

The scene is not tied to a specific place, but rather to a feeling, one that exists between memory and imagination. The trees stand as silent witnesses, while the fading light reflects the quiet transitions we often overlook. 

In this piece, I allowed the painting to guide its own direction, responding to each stage without a fixed plan, trusting the process to reveal its own meaning.

The Birth of Temitayọ

The evening of 6th February 1987 was just another day on my way back from Silsoe. It was a Friday, and Tọpẹ had left her foster parents in Bedford as soon as Grace started her maternity leave. I was rushing home, looking forward to seeing my little daughter. I was also very hungry and exhausted and could not wait to have my dinner. As I was about to put the key in the keyhole to open the door, I noticed that a note had been stuck to our front door. It was dark, so I could not read it properly.                                Pa Thaddeus  One day, after work and just before I was free to go on my usual fishing expedition, I went up a hill near our hut to relieve myself. I heard a strange sound that seemed to be coming closer. I stood up to investigate, even though I hadn’t finished. I was nervous and started running without cleaning myself. Suddenly, I felt something touch my leg. As I tried to see what it was, I glimpsed the tail of what looked like a snake. My older brother, Thaddeus, was standing some distance away. I ran towards him and told him I’d seen a snake. He went up the hill to check and, within a minute, called my father, asking him to come quickly. He said it was a python.
