Book Launch


I have just 30 copies of my memoir left, and rather than selling them, I have chosen to give them as gifts.

Each copy will go to those who support the Matthew Adekunle Medupin Foundation with a minimum donation of £20. The foundation is very close to my heart, as it is dedicated to helping orphans, widows, and those living with sickle-cell disease in Ogidi-Ela, my hometown in Nigeria.

The memoir will be launched on Saturday, 9th May, as part of my 6th Art Exhibition at the Upper Hall of St William of York Roman Catholic Church, Forest Hill, London, from 12 noon to 5 pm. The event will also form part of the celebration of my 76th birthday.

It would mean a great deal to me to have you there—to share in this special moment of art, purpose, and personal milestone. You are most warmly invited.

The first thing that attracted me to Grace was her simplicity and the gentle aura of innocence that characterised her first appearance. She had also come home for Christmas. The Birth of Temitayọ

The evening of 6th February 1987 was just another day on my way back from Silsoe. It was a Friday, and Tọpẹ had left her foster parents in Bedford as soon as Grace started her maternity leave. I was rushing home, looking forward to seeing my little daughter. I was also very hungry and exhausted and could not wait to have my dinner. As I was about to put the key in the keyhole to open the door, I noticed that a note had been stuck to our front door. It was dark, so I could not read it properly. I removed it and moved to a place where there was light. It was Grace’s handwriting. She said she had gone to the hospital and that I should go to Akinola’s house—another family friend’s house on the next block—to bring Tọpẹ back home. The Day of the Python

                               Pa Thaddeus  One day, after work and just before I was free to go on my usual fishing expedition, I went up a hill near our hut to relieve myself. I heard a strange sound that seemed to be coming closer. I stood up to investigate, even though I hadn’t finished. I was nervous and started running without cleaning myself. Suddenly, I felt something touch my leg. As I tried to see what it was, I glimpsed the tail of what looked like a snake. My older brother, Thaddeus, was standing some distance away. I ran towards him and told him I’d seen a snake. He went up the hill to check and, within a minute, called my father, asking him to come quickly. He said it was a python.
