Vanishing Canopy

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas Board
Size: 16" x 20"
Artist: Matthew Medupin

The Vanishing Canopy is a visual lament for the Earth’s disappearing forests — a layered, textural outcry against environmental degradation. The dense, shadowed lower half suggests a once-thriving forest floor now cloaked in darkness, while fading patches of green, bleeding reds, and bursts of yellow evoke the slow, painful unraveling of our natural ecosystems.

Smoky grays drift upward like ash or pollution, blurring the boundary between earth and sky. And yet, within this chaos, flashes of colour persist — signs of life clinging on, reminders of nature’s resilience even in the face of devastation.

This painting stands as both a warning and a tribute — where beauty and destruction collide. It urges the viewer to pause, reflect, and consider what is being lost… and what still might be saved.
